BEST TEAM From the start, the team of local Steven PICHOT showed a great potential in strong wind and massive waves. His partners, the PWA pros Victor Fernandez and Julien Taboulet were on top in these conditions, too. Colin Sifferlen, former newschool freestyler, who could win the King of the lake, surprised everybody with a fluid and fast efficient surfing style. Local Steven Pichot can be quite happy being a member of the absolute dream team. He has shared his spot with the best windsurfers of the World and could win with this team the contest.

1st – PICHOT/FERNANDEZ/TABOULET/SIFFERLEN. Total = 34 pts
2nd – VOGET/GODET/CASTE/JUBAN. Total = 31 pts
3rd – McKERCHER/ZABALA/MUSSOLINI/BRUCH. Total = 28,5 pts
4th- TRAVERSA/GOFFINET/CLANCY/VAN WOERKENS.Total = 26,5 pts

Board Prohibition

From 7th October 2009, BA baggage policy is changing. If your sporting bag is no more than 240cm x 75cm x 65cm including the handle, pockets and wheels, and no more than 23kg in weight, you can add it on free of charge. Anything larger gets charged.
Golfers, tennis players and anglers are ok, but surfers and windsurfers are in trouble. No mention of kiteboarders, but it may be safe to assume you`ll make it through if you pack it well.

Improving on basic surf bag design, Nicholas Martino dreamed up a way to make surfer's lives easier by adding inflatable chambers for more protection. Although it's still a prototype, we hope to see it pushed into production soon.

The cover not only offers supreme defense from dings, but also makes for a convenient way to transport boards via a cushy handhold and it doubles as a sleeping mat for those who like to hike out to their favorite breaks or sleep in the back of their truck when anticipating swells. One clever aspect is that Martino cleverly recommends filling it with helium, adding a little lift to lighten the load... great for getting your load through airport check-in.

A simple and thoughtful multipurpose design, that he hopes to see this product in stores soon. Keep your eyes out in the future for more from Martino. Contact him at nicholas [dot] martino [at] bigpond [dot] com.

If you can't wait, there is a another version from Soma with similar protective features (pictured in silver). The added convenience of compact portability—the cover deflates and rolls into a small carrying bag—is reason enough to purchase. Available from Soma for $150.

Thursday, July 23rd saw the beginnings of a pumping south swell -- and a white shark spotted about 300 yards off Malibu. This is on the heels of many sightings at both San O and Sunset Beach in LA. Says shark expert Ralph Collier: "Although it would appear that there is an increase in the number of shark encounters, this could be an artifact of simply more individuals reporting observations and not necessarily an increase in the shark/ocean user populations. However, there appears to be an increase in the number of events at specific locations, Sunset and San Onofre State Beaches, and possibly the same individual sharks being involved in these events at these sites. We could have juvenile and/or sub-adult White Sharks utilizing specific sites for feeding as these incidents appear to increase during Grunion spawns."

2010 - Quad Tabou

Thomas is clearly excited about his new Tabou quad. ‘This board measures 220 x 53 cm with a volume of 64 litres. For the shape, Fabien Vollenweider took my twins as inspiration, but shaped the board with a little less tail width, a bit fatter rails and a shorter nose. And of course: four fins! Summer has arrived and it’s the perfect time to consider one of these 7.5m performance no-cam freeride sails.

Sure, you may go slightly faster on a cambered sail, but you wont have the same ease of rigging, ease of manoeuvring and general playful feel that these sails offer.
For most sailors under 85kg’s, these sails are as big as you need to go. They are also small enough to fit 460cm masts and at the same time, light enough to throw around and practice the odd helicopter tack and 360.

But these aren’t just regular 7.5 sails, they are performance freeride 7.5’s and with most of them sporting 7 battens, will offer enough speed and stability to out-pace all but the most dedicated race gear.

They have great wind range and great all-round appeal and if you want to windsurf twice as much this summer, the simple answer is to buy one of these!

HOME

We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth's climate. The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being. For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film. HOME has been made for you : share it! And act for the planet.

Virtual Wave Session

Posted in: | 0 commenti | |

The 16th and 17th of may the first Punta Blanca “Get High or Die” contest was held.

A fun contest with everyone watching being a judge through voting. There was a regular competition and also an expression session with prices for the biggest crash, the highest jump and the gay-est manouevre.

Not only the most radical jumps scored but also progression/commitment. To land or even just try moves for the first time also counted.

The winds weren´t as strong as predicted but there still was some good action with many riders going for new things.

After the regular competition the results were:

1-Will Ward (Witchcraft-Ezzy)

2-Victor Moncloa (Sailboards Tarifa-Ezzy)

3-Pieter Delaleeuw (Witchcraft-Ezzy)

Butterfly Effect

From Pritchard's blog: Well this Butterfly Effect was amazing. I am so impressed with the organization and all that goes into this event. Everyone that I talked to raved about how much fun everyone had. If you missed it this year make sure you look for it next year. This year the skies parted and the weather was just perfect. I was happy to be part of the fun and got to get out my camera and take some fun photos!!

Thommen Technology

T1 is introducing a new technology in the board building industry. The “BambO2/CarbonX”.

His new Version 4,0 T1 incorporates Bamboo veneers in all T1 boards. This new technology not only results in longer lasting boards but also Greener.

T1’s ‘CarboX’ construction uses strategically oriented carbon layers, mirrored inside and outside the PVC sandwich skin, paired with T-stringers in deck and bottom to tune and control torsion and flex in its boards depending on their range of use. RevoXskin is a UV-resistant and 100 % waterproof finishing film eliminating the use of any fillers and primers.

By integrating full BambO_ decks and bottoms in its ‘Version 4.0’ range, T1 is able to further boost the resilience of its windsurf boards and enhance stiffness and toughness at the same time: Customers will be rewarded with longer lasting products that will keep their crisp and snappy “new board feeling” for many years. The bamboo fiber excels with an immense tensile strength rivaling many metal alloys but also features a strength-to-weight ratio better than graphite (carbon). This makes the bamboo fiber one of the most resilient natural materials
known to man.”

The contributions to a “Greener” environment thanks to the use of the Bamboo construction are many: Bamboo grows faster than any tree, and can be cut and is capable of regenerating without the need to replant. Also, bamboo is an extremely efficient “air cleaner”, as no other wood material takes up as much Carbon Dioxide.

All the new Version 4,0 boards feature a Full BamboO2 deck and bottom and upgraded “CarboX” construction: CarboX50 for all T1 MauiWaveX, CarboX75 for all T1 CrossX crossover boards, CarboX100 for all T1 FastX free-slalom boards, and CaboX full carbon for T1 SR speed and RS slalom and race boards.

I am Jason Polakow

You thought it was a serious event? Yes it was, regarding the tough conditions the riders have met on day 6 and day 7 in Puertito.
But behind the scene, between the heats, during the days without wind, and at night, this competition was anything but serious!
All the guys were pretty relaxed, no stress and some of them were really funny. So we have had a lot of fun watching again all the rushes we've done, and we've decided to show the "behind the scene" of this 1st event of a kind...
